2024 USA Hockey Registration and Seminar Information.
There was an incident last week involving 2 youth officials in Seattle Washington. A parent came on the ice and assaulted the officials. The officials were 13 and 14 years old. Not that the age matters in this case, it just makes a despicable act even more despicable.
This behavior will not be tolerated. The perpetrator was immediately banned from that facility, and later after conferring with USA Hockey, the Pacific Northwest Amateur Hockey Association banned the parent from all USA Hockey affiliated rinks in the state.
Texas has laws to protect officials from this abhorrent behavior. An assault against a sports official is a minimum class B misdemeanor which typically carries up to 6 months in county jail and $2000 fine. Any assault where someone suffered “bodily injury” meaning the person feels any kind of pain, is a minimum class A misdemeanor which typically carries up to 1 year in county jail and $4000 fine.
If any HIHOA official is assaulted while on, or off the ice by anyone, immediately contact the police and file a report. You need to submit a report of the incident to HIHOA so we can follow up with USA Hockey and the Texas Amateur Hockey Association.
This behavior will not, and should not, be tolerated at any level.
